Polegate Community Association

Polegate Community Association was founded in 1961 by some enthusiastic local people and they dedicated their first few years to the leasing of a piece of land and the raising of necessary funds to build the first Community Centre. The constitution states our aims as follows: – to provide facilities in the interest of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the condition of life for the said inhabitants.

Polegate Community Association has been in existence for more than 50 years and is an independent organisation which owns, runs and maintains the Polegate Community Centre for the use of the people in the area for leisure activities. There are a large number of local societies which meet here, catering for all ages from babies to senior citizens for a wide range of interests including Table Tennis, Drama, Dancing, Bingo, a Playgroup, Toddler Group, Scouts, Cubs and Beavers, Zumba, Pilates, W I, Camera Group, Gardeners, Sketching, Craft Group, Fitness Groups and Whist Club. The Centre comprises a large Hall, (The Henry Twine Hall), two smaller rooms (The Lounge & The Activity Room) and two committee-sized rooms, together with kitchens and toilets. The money needed to run it comes from membership and affiliation fees, rents from hiring out the rooms, payments for advertising in our bi-monthly magazine, “The Community News”, our own fund-raising efforts and the occasional donation or legacy.
