The Project is a charity and therefore has charitable objects which are: • the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural environment by: o diverting re-usable timber away from landfill and incineration, and promoting recycling of waste wood in East and West Sussex, in line with national waste policy seeking to establish a circular economy; o raising public awareness of environmental matters related to re-use and recycling of household and industrial waste and the place of wood recycling in the circular economy • Working with socially excluded trainees/ volunteers to provide meaningful daytime activity, training in retail, collections, carpentry and administration with the opportunity of positive progress to work or accredited training. Services: The Wood Recycling Project re-uses or recycles over 700 tonnes of wood each year. The wood is sorted, graded, prepared for re-sale and supplied via shops in Brighton and Clay Hill. The Project employs retail, administration and collections staff and works with over 80 volunteers/ trainees each year. Volunteers give over 8,000 hours. The project also runs a workshop where the magic happens. Trainees are taught carpentry and manufactured products are produced from waste wood and sold to householders and businesses. This could be bird boxes to a café refit.
