Organisation Railway Land Wildlife Trust

Location Lewes, Wealden

Come together with the community at the Railway Land nature reserve on September 22nd for an afternoon dedicated to the traditional art of meadow management. The age-old technique of scything helps maintain grasslands by spreading wildflower seeds, preserving soil health, and preventing brambles from taking over. This gentle process ensures that wildflowers grow back stronger, creating diverse habitats for pollinators and wildlife to thrive.

If you are over 18 and are scythe-curious, come and have a go! If you are already a seasoned-scyther, come and help us mow! It’s not just conservation, it’s a celebration! There will be autumnal crafts, music and refreshments for all ages whilst the scything is going on. A chance to connect with nature, support biodiversity, and experience the slower, more mindful way of managing our landscapes.

This event is FREE and there’s no need to book. Meet us at the far end of The Sidings, or follow the signs from the Linklater Pavilion.
