Your East Sussex – June 2025
Cheers to volunteers in East Sussex!
East Sussex County Council and our local partners are celebrating Volunteers’ Week (2-9 June) and are keen to thank the many volunteers across East Sussex for their hard work and contribution to the community.
Volunteering is transforming lives in East Sussex – we recently interviewed four locals who shared with us their inspiring journeys—from John, who gained childcare experience at a Family Hub to prepare for adoption, to Lisa, a former teacher who found renewed purpose supporting early years groups. Their stories highlight how volunteering not only benefits the community but also offers personal growth, skill development, and a sense of connection. Whether you’re looking to give back, build your CV, or explore new opportunities, volunteering can be a rewarding path.
I you feel inspired, there are a huge number of flexible roles across the county, from long-term positions to one-off events. Visit Tribe and find a volunteering role to suit your skills and your schedule.

Do you know what loneliness looks like?
It can look like a new mum at home with her baby or a middle-aged man watching rugby at the pub with his friends. It could be an older person walking through the park on a sunny day, a teenager sitting in a classroom taking notes or university graduate who’s just moved back home.
Loneliness doesn’t look one way and can affect anyone. But while loneliness may be common, that doesn’t make it any less upsetting or painful. Experiencing loneliness is hard, and it’s important to recognise it for what it is – a natural emotion – so you can learn to manage it.
