ESSCP Neglect Training 22nd January 2025 – spaces available

The East Sussex Safeguarding Children Partnership would like to draw your attention to this important multi-agency training course that was relaunched in July and now forms part of our core training offer.

ESSCP: Understanding Neglect for Families and their children; Using the Neglect Toolkit to assess, record and refer families for support and intervention. Wednesday 22nd January, 9:30-16:30, in person at Wellshurst Golf Club, North Street, Hellingly, East Sussex BN27 4ED.

Please come and attend the partnership’s updated multi-agency neglect training, with a focus on capturing the voices of children who are experiencing neglect.  ‘Children’s voices are not always heard by professionals in safeguarding and support work. Key issues include a lack of engagement with children and their views, too much focus on the needs of adults, and a lack of trusted relationships with children.’ (NSPCC 2024)

Learning Outcomes: By the end of the course, participants will have an overview of current research in relation to child neglect and to explore the East Sussex Neglect Toolkit to:

  • Feel more confident at recognising and assessing neglect using both the Matrix and recording the child’s voice, and its impact for children and young people.
  • To use the toolkit and reference the use of the tools in their work to embed standard assessment criteria which will enable more evidence-based analysis.
  • To understand how to review their work within agency, again using standardised tools.
  • To understand the impact of better multi agency working and communication.
