Research & Campaign Volunteer
Research & Campaigns work is undertaken by every Citizens Advice office in the country. As well as giving advice to individual clients, all workers and volunteers collect evidence of practices and policies which are causing problems. Our knowledge of clients’ problems and circumstances enables us to try to influence change and get a fairer deal for everyone.
We are looking for a volunteer who can spare a few hours a month to help us with this work. Although based in Eastbourne, this can be a remote post for the right applicant.
Main Responsibilities:
- To co-ordinate and develop research and campaigns (R&C) work for Citizens Advice Eastbourne
- Develop and maintain systems to ensure effective completion, storage and transmission to Citizens Advice of evidence
forms
- Monitor and evaluate R&C trends and statistics
- Provide regular reports on R&C work to Manager and Trustees
- Liaise with Citizens Advice R&C staff; attend R&C group meetings as arranged
- Submit evidence to Citizens Advice on current R&C issues, as and when appropriate.
- Ensure effective publicity for of R&C work with local press, radio and TV
- Establish effective working relationships with local voluntary and statutory agencies, press, TV and radio journalists, local
MPs and councillors
Skills knowledge and experience required to fulfil this role:
- Commitment to the aims, principles and policies of the Citizens Advice service
- Understanding of the importance of R&C work in the advice process
- Commitment to challenging injustice
- Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices
- Knowledge and interest in current local and national R&C issues and current affairs
- Ability to analyse and evaluate, plan and produce written information and reports
- Skills in planning and in setting up effective systems for data collection, quality control, monitoring and evaluation
- Ability to work as a member of a team and to network with community, voluntary and statutory organisations and other
professionals
