Holding Space

What we do? Holding Space was started in September 2019 by, its founder, following her own journey and experience of caring for a child with mental illness without any help or support. We have found that one of the most effective ways to deliver that support is through peer support – parents who have gone through the same experience supporting other parents. We empower and support parents to look after their own mental wellbeing, build confidence in their own parenting skills and help them develop coping strategies so they are better able to provide the care and support that their children need. We help prevent families reaching crisis point. We have become the first point of call for families across East Sussex reaching out for support and information. We receive referrals from local schools, children’s services, local and statutory organisations or parents self-refer. We offer parent/carer peer support to families whose children and young people are struggling with their emotional and mental health. We offer a safe, non judgemental space for parent/carers to come together; to share, connect and chat. For them to know that they are not alone. We offer a range of support from monthly drop in sessions at The Foundry, Beacon Centre, monthly face-face coffee mornings, 1:1 telephone support, low cost counselling, therapeutic interventions as well as education and information. Further details can be found on our website
