More than just a walk in the park: Shinewater Ideas Walk benefits community

The ‘Shinewater Ideas Walk’ took place on a misty Friday morning of February half term. People with an interest in Shinewater Park in Eastbourne and its diverse marshland habitat joined with local residents and health walkers to explore the park and think about the potential it provides for new activities and events. The guided walked took in the existing facilities, including the playing field, playground, skate park and multi-use games area, before heading for the picturesque lakes, open green spaces, reedbeds and cycling trail. At each stopping place ideas were captured; the amphitheatre as a place for school performance; the lakeside as venue for art and exercises classes; and the wooded areas and greenspaces for forest school and guided bird and nature walks.

Cllr Alan Shuttleworth, Friends of Shinewater Park committee commented that the Shinewater Ideas Walk "produced lots of great ideas for future events and activities in Shinewater Park, including developing a Forest School club, linking up closely with other park groups, and promoting the natural beauty of the park to people from across Eastbourne. We would love to hear from anyone who is interested in joining the Friends of Shinewater Park group.”
