Job Title:                                 Volunteer Coordinator Manager, Beachy Head Ambassadors

Salary                                     £38,223 pro rata

Hours:                                     0.8FTE

Holidays:                                 25 days pro rata

Contract:                                 Fixed term: 2 April 2024 – 11 October 2024 (this is a seasonal position for the 2 year pilot)

Pension:                                  3VA will match contributions of up to 6% of annual salary Nest pension scheme.

We represent and advocate for the voluntary and community sector with local government and other statutory authorities.


Beachy Head Ambassadors

East Sussex Public Health is commissioning a pilot over a 2-year period to explore the use of a volunteer-led visitor engagement ambassador service within the area around Beachy Head. The ambition behind the pilot is to facilitate and promote appealing activities and safe use of the area, encouraging a more positive association that helps to protect human life and deter suicide. 3VA is the ESCC Provider (Host Agency) for the programme.

Beachy Head Ambassadors, promoting and facilitating activities in the Beachy Head area, will help by

  1. a) contributing towards changing the public image of the area, showing it as somewhere well used and busy, and complement the communications strategy being developed by the Samaritans to amplify positive stories and imagery of the area. Other work that this could potentially link with includes Walk the Chalk and Wildwood Heritage.


  1. b) being equipped (through training and induction) with the knowledge and confidence to help with the early identification of people at risk of suicide, to help them get the support they need, but without providing any direct intervention. They will effectively provide additional surveillance, alerting the Beachy Head Chaplaincy Team (BHCT) and police if they identify someone of concern.


Main Responsibilities

Design and implement a process to recruit up to 16 volunteers to undertake visitor engagement activities in the Beachy Head area

  • Coordination and management of a comprehensive, multi-agency training programme for the volunteer ambassadors
  • Management of volunteer expenses, uniforms, DBS checks, safeguarding and GDPR training
  • Co-ordination of the provision of psychological support including peer/ reflective support for the volunteers as necessary (provided by external agencies)

 Working context

  • Work collaboratively with the 3VA team towards the overall aims and objectives of the organisation
  • Maintain current knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures, and good practice which are relevant to the role
  • Undertake any other duties that might reasonably be required which are in line with the post

Other requirements

The role is home based although the post holder’s responsibilities require travel in and around the local Beachy Head / Eastbourne / coastal area, and to work occasional unsocial hours.
