Taking place during the week of June 16-22, 2025 this year The Refugee Week celebrations will focus on the theme “Community as a Superpower“. Established in 1998 in the UK, the festival has grown into a global movement with annual celebrations of contributions, creativity, and resilience of the refugees and people seeking sanctuary.
This year, the Refugee Week celebrations in East Sussex will take place in different places, giving everyone a choice and the possibility to join in. Check the list below and find the events to enjoy, spending good time in good company:
- June 7th, 1-5pm, Saturday, Marine Workshops, Newhaven, BN9 0ER. Honour the resilience, culture, and contribution of refugees by listening to stories, enjoying food and music, and more! Free admission.
- June 20th, 10-12.00, Friday, Sanctuary Cafe, Eastbourne, WA13 0QL. Celebrate Refugee Week with Sanctuary, enjoying the Music and food from all around the world. Free admission
- June 22, 2-4.30pm, Sunday, Depot Lewes – a Vibrant celebration of Ukrainian culture with heartwarming program filled with traditional songs, authentic cuisine, and unique craft stalls. Free admission
- June 22, 12-5pm, Sunday, Manor Barn, Bexhill, TN40 2JA. Mriya Festival will be celebrating Ukrainian culture with beautiful musical performance from Culbaba theatre, delicious traditional food, artisan crafts market, entertainment for children and more! Donations based admission
- June 13th- July 30th, De la Warr Pavillion, TN40 1DP. Stitch for Change and Young Creatives Exhibition featuring the Stitch for Change superhero capes made by refugees and local woman, and a vibrant work of young artists who lived through experience of refuge and migration. Free admission
