National Lottery Community Fund to Observe’ Period of Sensitivity’ Before General Election

The National Lottery Community Fund (NLCF) has announced that due to the General Election to be held on 4 July 2024, it will observe the ‘Period of Sensitivity’ that is held before every General Election.

The largest community funder in the UK will continue to make grant decisions, but as a Non-Departmental Public Body it must remain ‘politically impartial’ which means from 23 May until 5 July, NLCF will not:

  • Announce new funding programmes, partnerships, funding awards or publications.
  • Promote the good work it has done or organisations it has supported.
  • Publish new evaluation reports.
  • Interact with or share content from grant holders on digital or social media channels.
  • Interact with politicians or candidates seeking re-election.

Once a new government is formed, NLCF will ‘resume external communications activity’.

It also requests that:

  • Organisations that have recently been awarded a NLCF grant not to publicly announce their new National Lottery funding before Thursday 4 July, including social media announcements and news articles.
  • Charities consult the Charity Commission’s guidance for charities on what is deemed legal and good practice in the period between the announcement of an election and the date the election is held. The guidance can be found on the Charity Commission website.

The full press release can be found on the National Lottery Community Fund website.
