Do you know what loneliness looks like?
National surveys have shown that half of adults in Great Britain report feeling lonely occasionally, sometimes, often, or always. But while loneliness may be a natural emotion, that doesn’t make it any less upsetting or painful.
Loneliness can have a significant impact on our wellbeing and, if it is prolonged, it can cause (or worsen) mental health problems and a decline in your physical health. Loneliness is often a feeling that is left unsaid, which is why we want to get people thinking and talking about it during Loneliness Awareness Week ( 9 – 15 June).
Curious to learn more about what it looks like? (Spoiler: loneliness doesn’t have one look because anyone can experience it). Find out the reasons behind loneliness and why it’s important we learn to manage it. Plus, discover local and national resources to help yourself and others.
